In around 50-51AD, a brand new church was born in the ancient city of Thessalonica, in northern Greece. Established by Paul, Silas & Timothy during Paul's Second Missionary Journey, the church was soon left to stand on its own two feet as its founders were driven out of the city. These new Christians, few and vulnerable, faced great persecution for their faith. Just a few months after Paul wrote his first letter to them, to encourage them and to clarify certain truths, he wrote again. Once more his great concern was that they should stand fast in their faith, helped particularly by their understanding that Jesus will return for his people. In that hope they are called to stand firm and hold to the truths they have been taught. In this series we seek to hear the pastoral heart, and receive the practical help, of this letter.
